Siemens - SG75
Siemens SG75

We have to admit that we've stared long and hard at the Siemens SG75 3G slider phone - simply trying to work out if we like the way it looks or not. It's a fairly slabby looking device, but the interesting titanium colour scheme works quite well on the SG75. The six control buttons arranged along the edge of the SG75 remind us of the Siemens SX1 smartphone, and overall the design looks very.. well.. German.

Beyond the love-it-or-hate it looks, the Siemens SG75 is a pretty standard midrange 3G phone, with a 176x220 pixel 2" display, RSMMC memory slot (70Mb internal), Bluetooth, 1.3 megapixel main camera, MP3 and multimedia playback, web browser and email client.

At 123 grams, the Siemens SG75 is fairly typical for a modern 3G device. When closed the SG75 measures 98x50x23mm, and comes with a semi-automatic slider.

It's not a bad device, but it's not as good as the upcoming Nokia 6280 which has a better camera and screen. The Nokia is a Symbian smartphone, whereas the Siemens SG75's only software expandability comes through Java support. It comes with a full set of PIM functions though, which should be enough for most people.

So, again the question is "do we like it?" We have to admit that some of Siemens recent "slabby" designs have failed to impress, but there is something appealing about the SG75's design. Underneath, it's a perfectly good 3G phone with decent multimedia capabilities too, so this may well be a successful handset for Siemens when it launches in late 2005.

Note: we understand that this handset has now been cancelled.
