Sendo - S1
Sendo S1 Overview

The Sendo S1 is the normal candybar handset that we are not getting to see much more in the markets. This happens as manufacturers try to satisfy the "something different" quirk that consumers seemed to have caught. However the candybar remains one of the easiest form factors to handle and carry around. As can be seen from the accompanying pictures, the buttons (keypad) are neatly laid out. There are no fancy cuts or designs which make it harder to use the phone and are simply attributed to fashion. The Sendo S1 lays emphasis on ease of use and thats exactly what the consumer gets. The 96 x 64 pixel color display which will have an added benefit which Sendo calls as ScreenZ technology should take care of a problem that most mobile phone users are well aware of. It is that of being unable to see the display when in bright sunlight. One is forced to shield the display from the light to be able to make any sense from it.

Sendo claims that the S1 is the only phone of its class to have completely personalisable display which enables consumers to fully personalise their display with interchangeable screens that can be easily refreshed and updated. Ron Schaeffer, Product Management Director for Sendo commented, “Sendo is pleased to be first to market with such a unique and fun new handset. We see the Sendo S1 as being a popular entry level photo quality colour screen phone providing a wealth of benefits to operators wanting to customise their handsets for different markets, and for consumers wanting a high quality, colour screen phone that they can easily personalise.”

The Sendo S1 also comes with changeable covers, screensavers and animation, and boasts 96x64 pixel resolution. Other features include digital audio and best in class polyphonic ringtones, original Sendo cartoon character content, one touch access to SMS, and user changeable short-cut keys including one touch access to ringtones and games. Users will however be dissappointed by the limited connectivity support offered to the consumer since they dont have USB, Infrared leave alone Bluetooth. Memory is also only static, the only respite the buyer has is from that which Sendo has already loaded into the piece, there are no card slots to expand the same. Then again, without Mp3 playing capability or a camera it is unlikely that anyone would need so much memory.

The dual band Sendo S1 weighs a mere 83g and has a leadership talk time of three – seven hours and a standby time of 200 – 425 hours. It is expected to be available by the third quarter of 2005.
