Samsung - i300O2 to Exclusively Carry the Samsung SGH-i300 in the UK
The new Samsung SGH-i300 is set for a debut on the UK's O2 network during October, possibly providing a decent competitor to the Nokia N91.
The Samsung i300 is a Windows Mobile based smartphone, the twist being that it also has a 3GB internal hard drive. There seems to be a huge push for music phones at the moment, from the flash memory based Sony Ericsson W800 and Motorola ROKR E1, to the hard drive based Nokia N91. The N91 would be the i300's direct competitor, and Samsung's effort includes features that make it at least an equal.
The Samsung i300 has a 262k color TFT LCD and a 1.3 megapixel camera. All the PIM functions of Windows Mobile are included, as well as the Windows Media Player. It is assumed that the i300 will be able to play DRM protected WMA files from PlaysForSure compatible music stores.
The Samsung SGH-i300 will be available from O2 for £80 (about $146USD) with a service agreement.Specifications for the Samsung SGH-i300

Availability Q4 2005 (UK)
Last Thursday in Hannover, Germany, Samsung launched their first GSM handset that is equipped with a built-in hard disk. The new SGH-i300, as the device is known, has a 3GB hard disk inside for storing photos from its 1.3 megapixel camera, and for storing music files for its stereo media player. The SGH-i300 is also notable for its Microsoft Smartphone OS and the presence of Bluetooth support.
Speaking of support, the media player in the SGH-i300 supports not only MP3 files, but also WMA, AAC, AAC+, and even OGG files. And if the 3GB drive isn't quite enough storage for you, you can also toss in a TransFlash memory card.
The SGH-i300 weighs about 130g, which is on the heavy side, but does offer such bonuses as a 262k color QVGA (240x320) display and built-in stereo speakers.
No word yet as to where and when the SGH-i300 will be available. |
