Samsung - E730Samsung E730 (SGH-E730)
Very similar to the excellent Samsung E720 handset (one of our favourite handsets at the moment), the Samsung SGH-E730 is almost identical, except with a new extra features.
It's not really a replacement for the E720, the E730 can be seen more as an alternative model, typically appealing to operators who aren't already carrying the E720 in their range.
It certainly looks a little different from the E720 which followed the E700, E710 and E715 handsets precisely. The E730 looks a little like many other recent Samsung handsets, with smoother lines replacing the sharper E720, but that's not the only difference.
The E730 has a 1.3 megapixel digital camera, compared with the E720's 1.0 megapixel unit. There is a tiny bit more memory (92Mb shared, compared with 90Mb on the E720), a little difference in weight (the E730 is 8 grams heavier than the E720 at 88 grams), the SGH-E730 also comes with an FM radio but manages a slightly shorter battery life at 5 hours as opposed to an absolute maximum of 5.5 on the E720. The E730 has built-in handsfree calling too.
Other than that, both phones share the same 176x220 pixel TFT display in 262,000 colours, have external controls for the built-in media player, Bluetooth, a WAP 2.0 browser and email client, plus both have GPRS data but no EDGE.
The main drawback with the Samsung E730 (as the E720) is a lack of removable memory, but then there's quite a lot of internal memory, and at just 88 grams the E730 is impressively lightweight for the feature set. The E730 is theoretically available in a range of colours, including black, silver, grey and red. This is a good handset, and will probably appeal to carriers who are not already offering the SGH-E720.
Available now in some regions, although it probably won't be available on the same carriers at the E720.
