Sagem - my600XSagem my600X
Back at the end of 2004, we predicted that Sagem was going to do well in 2005 as it had built up a promising range of handsets - but instead Sagem's merger into the Safran group appeared to derail the company's strategy and as a result 2005 was a pretty poor year.
However, during 2006 Sagem have rebuilt their mobile phone portfolio with a wide range of cosmetically similar devices that are quite competitive and certainly nicer to look at than some Sagems of old.
This, then, is the Sagem my600X or to give it the absolutely correct capitalisation, the SAGEM my600X (SAGEM is an acronym for Société d’Applications Générales de l’Electricité et de la Mécanique), their latest offering and one of a very small number of 3G devices from Sagem.
There's nothing very exciting here, the Sag.. err.. SAGEM my600X is a standard 3G device with a 176x220 pixel display, miniSD expandable memory (just 16Mb available internally), an MP3 player, Bluetooth and some sort of camera on the back, although Sagem have neglected to mention what resolution it is (although it is most likely a 1.3 megapixel device). There's no secondary camera for video calling though.
The SAGEM my600X manages to get below the magic 100 gram figure for a 3G phone, but only just. At 99 grams and 110x48x16mm in size it's comparatively compact and light for a 3G phone, and the simply, unfussy design indicates that this will be quite easy to use.
It's not going to change the world when it comes to features, but the key thing with Sagem handsets is price. Although Sagem haven't confirmed the cost of the my600X, past experience indicates that the handset should offer very good value for money and will appeal to prepay customers in particular.
Sagem say that the my600X will be available in certain markets later this month.
