Panasonic - Z800
Panasonic Announces 3G Z800

Panasonic today announced the development of the company's first mobile phone designed for use on UMTS networks, the Z800. The Z800 aims at cutting down on the bulk of most 3G phones on the market and delivering a handset that is similar in size and weight to 2G phones.

Being a 3G phone, the Z800 is fully compatible with videotalk, and includes the necessary internal 110K camera to make it work. The Z800's auto-focus 1.3 Megapixel CCD outer camera's photos can be sent via MMS. Still and moving images shot from one of the Z800's two cameras can be displayed on either the inner 2", 65K color TFT display, or the outer 56K color STN sub-display.

Equipped with a miniSD card slot, the Z800 allows you to listen to your favourite music on the go and comes with built-in music download and player functions. It also supports Bluetooth, USB 2.0, and IrDA, allowing users to send photos and documents to a PC or MMS-enabled phone. This makes its connectivity options as good as any other non-smartphone on the market. Its Bluetooth capability also allows wireless connectivity through a Bluetooth headset.

Panasonic has taken the unusual step to announce the 'development' of this phone, which means that they don't know when it will be available, what the price will be, or even if the specifications are finalised. Still, the specs are solid, and the fact that it's one of the smallest and lightest 3G phones announced at the moment has perked our interest. Specifications for the Panasonic Z800
