Nokia - 6170Nokia's PTT 6170
Earlier this week, Nokia introduced a new clamshell Push-To-Talk (PTT) handset, the 6170. PTT offers "walkie-talkie" type functionality whereas the user presses a button to connect directly to the other party in a series of one-way voice communications back and forth. People in the US that have used Nextel's service will be quite familiar with the technology. This version of PTT is proprietary to Nokia and will not function with the other GPRS PTT standard pushed by Motorola, Sony Ericsson, and Siemens.
otherwise, the 6170 is a pretty typical clamshell camera phone, even if it is not very typical for Nokia. The 6170 has dual color displays, and its camera can record videos as well as take still photographs. The most striking feature of the 6170 might be its stainless steel faceplates, though, which surely account for part of its 121g weight.
The triband GSM/EDGE 6170 will come in two flavors, one for the Americas (supporting the 850Mhz band), and one for the rest of the world. Nokia expects the 6170 to reach the market in Q4 of this year for a price of about 250EUR without a contract.Specifications for the Nokia 6170
