NEC - N900NEC's Card shaped N900
One might think that Japanese based NEC had its sole focus in the past couple of months on the newly launched 3G network in Hong Kong, where they, together with the Hutchinson Group, who operates the 3G network, released their second WCDMA model - the NEC 616.
Although 3G comes first in mind when talking about the technology potential today and in the future, NEC has not neglected the Asian markets, particularly the Chinese market, which NEC themselves describe as nothing less than the "world's largest and most competitive mobile market."
The result is a bit unusual - it's a card shaped GSM phone with a built-in camera, which they claim is the world's smallest and slimmest of its kind. The facts speak for themselves: measurements are only 85mm (width) X 54mm (height) X 8.6mm (depth) with a claimed weight of only 70g.
"This world's smallest and slimmest mobile phone is a symbolic flagship product representing NEC's leading position in mobile terminal technology," said Yoshiharu Tamura, General Manager of Mobile Terminals Division, NEC Corp.
Although the phone was developed by the R&D department of NEC Japan, a lot of input came from the Mobile Terminals Development Centre based in Beijing, China.
The only possible downside, as we see it, is the fact that the phone has to be used in conjunction with wired hands free headset.
NEC said the N900 will be available later this month on the Chinese market. Specifications for the NEC N900
