For some reason we didn’t think the N500 would be hit stores until sometime early next year, but from the looks of it NEC’s new tri-band GSM/GPRS cellphone, which sports a 176×220 pixel LCD touchscreen (for doing some basic PDA-type stuff) and a built-in VGA quality camera, is already available in Thailand, if not elsewhere in Asia. Not likely to make it over here, especially since NEC’s handsets rarely show up this side of the pond.
The tri-band NEC N 500 looks really cool. Actually all handsets that show just their display (and a large one at that as in this case) look really awesome. The 176 x 220 pixel size is the same as microsoft smart phones. Unfortunately the futuristic look that the phone gives when you look at it for the first time is quickly dissipated when one finds a normal VGA camera with no memory card option. Even the display is 65,000 colors while other state of the art phones are already at 256,000 colors. The N 500 is extremely light at 80 grams and is still worth buying since its so unique with its slider form factor. |
