Motorola - SlimLiteMotorola Slimlite
Advantages Slim, light, Well Featured for a 1997 phone, Collectible!
Disadvantages Only the fact that its now superceded by newer smaller phones.
The Slimlite came out in 1997 so its quite rare nowadays. Amazingly I have one which is in mint condition and bought it at a well known auction site for just £7.49!!
The phone is certainly slim and lite, hence the name, and interestingly has the facility to house 2 batteries simultaneously at the back of the phone. Theres room for a small battery (5cm*3cm for the battery I have) at the top end of the back of the phone and theres also a connector at the bottom of the phone which will house a larger battery which runs the length of the phone. The phone comes with just the main smaller battery, in my case the battery juts out a little at the back due to having more power than the standard slim small battery which is shown in the manual.
Obviously nowadays this feature is not needed because battery technology has advanced considerably, but shows good thinking by Motorola back in the days when most of their phones were, like this one, Black, and with a military-style, squared off design, something which I believe looks better than the rounder shaped phones in existence at the moment. A well spaced tactile keypad , good display with powerful led, extendable aerial and buttons on the side for altering volume, which is very loud on highest setting for ringers and speech.
The phone weighs about the same as my 3310, approx 120-130 grams which for a phone over 4 years old is amazing.
The thickness of the phone is slimmest at the bottom and increases gradually the higher up the phone you go. Still impressive though, 9mm at the bottom and 16mm at the top. How many of todays phones get near this figure? not many I can tell you.
Again, for 1997 standards, The phone is very well specified with a hundred name memory as well as the small sim card, Vibra Alert for discreetness, 12/24 hour clock, and has the Personality menu which makes finding your most used menu options very easy by pressing the up arrow and 9 menu options can be custo mised, ie write sms, vibrate on/off, phone lock etc.
Signal strength is excellent like most Motorolas and call quality is good.
All in all an old phone but the fact it works well still and is well featured makes it a bit of a classic and makes a good spare or main phone.
