Motorola - E680iMotorola Launches Linux Based Music Phone E680i
Here at the M3 event in Miami, Motorola introduced their new E680i media phone for GSM networks. The e680i is a palm sized PDA like device that has a large and bright 240x320 pixel touch-screen display. The two things that the E680i really focuses on are music and video - both video playback and recording.
On the music side of things you'll find stereo speakers with simulated 3D surround sound. The E680i is also compatible with the new stereo Bluetooth headphones that Motorola recently introduced.
The E680i has a SD memory card slot for storage, and allows you to easily manage your files by linking the device to a PC over a USB cable directly, or wirelessly by using Bluetooth. Cards of up to 2GB in size are supported.
The E680i is based on the Linux operating system and uses a user interface that is written in Java. The overall feel of the system seemed nicer than that of the earlier Motorola Linux devices I've used, and the system certainly was pretty.
A number of 3D games should be available on the E680i that will make use of handset's built-in 3D graphics engine, a feature that is becoming more and more common these days.
The only real letdown in the spec sheet is probably the VGA resolution camera. I really would have liked to have seen a megapixel camera in there - especially for a device of this size.
Motorola expects the E680i to be available in Q2 of 2005. |
