LG - T5100LG's Megapixel T5100
LG launched their fisrt megapixel swivel screen phone at CeBIT and we got a chance to play with a working unit. One of the trends we saw at CeBIT this year was the idea of having "dual fronts", one for the phone function and another for the camera. The idea is to make the phone look like a camera when closed and we've seen this in the latest handsets from companies such as Sony Ericsson and Samsung. The new T5100 follows a similar design principle, looking like a mini camera from the back. The phone has a 1.3 megapixel camera (1280x960) with flash functionality and a large 176x220 pixel 260K color TFT screen. The T5100 also features an external 96x96 pixel 65K color display allowing users to use Picture Caller ID with full color.
The T5100 we used was bulky but pleasantly light, weighing in at 110g. It also has most of the features we've come to expect from a phone, with Java MIDP 2.0, MMS, and polyphonic ringtones. Bluetooth and a memory card slot are noticible in their absense, especially considering that most megapixel class phones coming on the market in the near future have these functions. Still, the swivel screen looks cool and can be pretty handy to take photos with.
LG expects to ship the T5100 to Europe in June. No price was revealed.
