Ericsson - T28s
Ericsson T28s

Advantages Full of features, Very small
Disadvantages Unreliable at times, Missing a few nice little features
Right from the off, this phone will satisfy your needs, and constantly surprise you with nice features.

Lets start with the fun. You get two games.."only two", I hear you moan...oh but what 2 games to choose, Solitare (patience to some of you) and tetris(yes tetris). These two games are incredibly addictive and you will wonder what you ever did on those long bus journeys home.

It has voice activated dialing, which you may say you won't use, but wait. If you record the message you will use for the voice dailing, when that number rings you it plays the message to tell you who is ringing before it begins the ring tone. How impressed will your friends be when they here "Dave's Mobile" before the phone even starts ringing.

There is of course a veritable feast of ring tones, not to mention some slots to record you own in. There are a million and one web sites online to get them from for free. Try www.mobilemelodies.com if you want to change you mundane tones.

The phone of course has a vibrate option which is essential for those quiet moments, which can be switched on and off at the touch of one button. It is a good strong vibrate so you won't miss it, like you can swith some phones. The phone also features a light which changes colour to show when it is low on battery, and which shows when it is charging.

You want more...you got it. You can assign personal ring tones so that when certain people ring a different ring tone is played. This can be a specific number of even just a dialing code, so anyone from a certain area of the country, or on a mobile can have a different tone.

There is of course a clock, and an alarm, not to mention a stop watch.

The phone is also brimming with shortcuts to make your life easier too, such as speed dialing, which is superb. I know have a phone without this and its a real pain.

The speech quality is excellent on this phone, and th e slightly ungly aerial is well worth it as you get excellent reception. One slight negative aspect of the great reception is that this phone actually gives off the most radiation of any mobile available.

The talk time and standy time on this pphone are not bad, considering the size of the phone. You can also buy a larger battery to improve this. With the slimline standard battery you get 2h12 mintues talk time and it tends to last 2 days if you talk a fair bit on it. Another nice feature of this phone is it tell syou who many minutes you have left of battery life, at the touch of a button.

Ok, so what is wrong with this phone? Answer- not a lot. It would be nice to be able to look at a list of calls received on its own at the touch of a button rather than either having to go through the menus or use the list combined with calls made as well. The phone also lacks a calendar, but most wont mindthis . The interface slows down a little when the memory starts to fill up with those names and numbers. It also seems strange and a little annoying that the light doesn't change when a call is received. There is one potentially bigger problem with this phone - reliability. While I loved this phone, it was proned to just turning itself off for no reason, and on the occasion it did this and refused to turn back on again, I decided enough was enough, and changed my phone. I know a lot of people who have T28s and they all agree that this is a great phone, if you are prepared to put up with the occasional problem.

Anyway, as you can see from the huge list of features, this is a great phone, and despite the negatives, I would recommend it.

I paid £90 for mine a long time ago and that was a bargain, but you can get it free these days.

If you want more information the Ericsson web site even has an interactive phone you can look at all the features on.
With it now being free, you cant go wrong. Get this phone while you can!

Advantages Thin, short good style!
Disadvantages reception
I bought a T28s 1 year ago as my first mobile phone and in the first period i found it very good.

It's very short (apart the antenna), thin, light and it can be put in your pocket or a little bag!

The menu is very easy to use, unfortunately the software is a little slow.

From the Phone Book list of options you can create groups of friends, very useful if you must send the same message fastly to a lot of people, write down email addresses and send emails from the email addresses option.

You can memory 200 phone number between the sim card memory and phone memory and every call can be associate to a different ringtone (there are 4 editable different ringtones and a lot of "standard" ones).

Very useful is the vibracall (the phone start vibrating when you receive a call or a message) and you must use it if you are studying in a library or during a lecture or a meeting in order not to disturb your nieghbours! The clock and chronometer are very useful, too

Now the problems!

Some friends of mine bought bad phones that only after a few days turned off without restarting!
The battery is not so powerful (only 50 hours in standby mode and 2 hours and 15 minutes in speech mode) the modern miniaturization could permit a better battery of the same size, I'm sure.

The reception is not always very good, sometimes even open air (in pubs or restaurants the indicator is always very very low and if you can receive a call the speech is obviously horrible) and other mobile phones, less expensive, in these conditions work better! I created 3 groups of friends and one day I need those groups i found them deleted and I don't know why, i'm sure i didn't delete them!

As I told before the software is a little slow when your memory is full and sometimes the shell that protects the buttons opens up without touching the button (this is a very common problem as I discover talk ing with some friends of mine).
Unfortunately if the phone is turned off is impossible to know if you receive a call(a common problem in mobile phones).

I suggest a T28s to semi-professional users and for the style it could be a good present!
