Alcatel - OT-C550As a Dual band GSM phone, the Alcatel OT-C550 mobile offers the ability to work with both GMS 900 / 1800 networks throughout the world and GSM 850 / 1900 if you happen to be visiting a region in North America. At just 90 grams and measuring 102.5 x 15.5 mm, it is light and small enough to carry without being a burden yet heavy enough to remind you that you are carrying it with you.
The Alcatel OT-C550 mobile phone is easy to read as well. With a 65k colour CSTN display and a 128 x 160 pixel resolution, you should have no problem reading your stored info.
One possible drawback to the Alcatel OT-C550 mobile phone is the fact that it cannot store mp3 ring tones. So, if you were hoping to include some of your favourite tunes as your ring tones, you won’t be able to do so with this mobile phone. You can, however, store polyphonic ring tones. Considering the price of this mobile phone, the inability to store mp3 ring tones may just be a sacrifice you are willing to make.
As might be expected from an entry level mobile phone such as the Alcatel OT-C550, the memory is somewhat small. This is part of the reason why you won’t be able to store mp3 ringtones on the phone. You will, however, be able to store 500 names and numbers in your phone book with the 4 MB shared memory the mobile phone provides. In addition, the phone stores 10 received, 10 dialled, and 10 missed calls for you to review at any time.
The battery life of the Alcatel OT-C550 is relatively long, with 6 hours of talk time possible with the phone. You also get about 300 or so standby hours. If you are looking for other tech perks, however, you might be disappointed by this mobile phone. The Alcatel OT-C550 mobile phone does not offer Bluetooth technology, nor does it have an infrared port or USB capabilities.
On the other hand, you can perform messaging with the phone and it does offer a VGA camera that shoots in 640 x 480 pixels. You will also find a calculator and calendar on the phone. When it comes to the outside colour of the mobile phone, you won’t find many options. In fact, it is only available in black.
For those interested in purchasing their first mobile phone or for parents buying a mobile phone for one of their children, the Alcatel OT-C550 is a good choice. It offers many of the characteristics that children find to be amusing, such as the ability to take photos of their friends, without the extras that most young people really don’t need anyway. In addition, it is relatively inexpensive, so it won’t hurt your pocketbook too much when you finally cave in and purchase a mobile phone for your youngster.
If you are a mobile phone pro or if you use your mobile phone to assist you with more than just meeting everyday communication needs, on the other hand, this phone may not be perfect for you. |
